Oakeshott says overseas donations are a serious threat to Australian politics | Rob Oakeshott I Independent for Cowper

Independent candidate for Cowper, Rob Oakeshott, has repeated calls he made more than five years ago for lax political donation laws to be tightened

"The revelation that senior One Nation representatives sought funding from the US multi-billion dollar business, Koch Industries, is something that should have the alarm bells sounding across the political landscape in Australia," Mr Oakeshott said.

"Part two of the stunning Al Jazeera documentary, 'How to Sell a Massacre' shows footage of One Nation's Steve Dickson meeting with a director of Koch industries - a corporation that ploughs billions of dollars into conservative causes in the US, giving them massive political lobbying clout.

"Any political party in Australia courting Koch Industries, seeking money to influence elections and policy, is a huge threat to the integrity of our political system and is something that I've been concerned about for some time. In fact, I wrote about it more than five years ago in my book 'The Independent Member for Lyne'," said Oakeshott.

"I am glad this is coming to light well before any Federal election, and I invite voters to consider this as a priority issue at the ballot box."
